TTP HARD vs DeWalt Cobalt Drill Bits | Independent Test on Spring Steel
Real-World Drill Bit Comparison by Wayne Winton
When you’re working with tough spring steel, not every cobalt drill bit is up to the job. In this independent video, Wayne Winton of TriCounty Locksmiths compares DeWalt cobalt drill bits against TTP HARD cobalt drill bits, both tested using CUT-IT cutting paste.
The result? DeWalt’s drill bit stalled halfway through the spring steel, while the TTP HARD bit cut straight through with ease. Wayne also praised CUT-IT paste for how well it sticks to the bit, reducing mess and improving cutting action.

Spring steel is one of the most difficult materials to drill — it resists cutting, builds up heat quickly, and can cause standard drill bits to snap or dull almost instantly.
In this independent head-to-head test, Wayne Winton of TriCounty Locksmiths compared a DeWalt cobalt drill bit to a TTP HARD cobalt drill bit. Both were used with CUT-IT cutting paste to ensure fair conditions.
The outcome was clear: while the DeWalt bit struggled and only reached halfway, the TTP HARD cobalt bit drilled smoothly through the entire piece of spring steel. Wayne also praised CUT-IT paste for its unique ability to stick to the bit, making it easier and less messy than oil-based lubricants.
This test reinforces the advantage of using independently tested, SGS-certified TTP HARD cobalt drill bits, supported by CUT-IT paste, when drilling the hardest steels.
